INVITED TO BE A CONTRIBUTOR ON ‘HONEST COOKING’ – October 2014

I was thrilled to be asked to be a contributor and network partner of Honest Cooking – a New York based online food and travel magazine. I’m looking forward to establishing a solid relationship with them over time and to be part of a team of passionate foodies.

FEATURED ON ‘FRESHLY PRESSED’ – September 2014

I was beyond excited when I was contacted by WordPress and told that they were featuring my Flan de Cafe on ‘Freshly Pressed’! To be honest, I hadn’t heard of it initially, but when I did some research I discovered just how prized a thing it was. I’m incredibly grateful to the WordPress team for their vote of confidence.

FOOD IMAGE FEATURED ON BUZZFEED – August 2014

I was contacted by leading American social media network Buzzfeed and asked if they could use my image ‘Little Mocha Custards’ for a feature called ’23 Incredible Coffee Desserts’, with the opportunity to use more of my images in the future. It may not be big news to professional bloggers who probably have that sort of thing happen to them all the time, but to this little NZ blogger, it’s pretty darn up there! My little mocha custards got viewed 2000 times in 12 days!

A NEW LOOK BLOG SITE – July 2014

It was time for a change – I began to realise that the three column style (which couldn’t be changed) in my previous blog theme made my images pretty small. And it wasn’t until I actually saw one of my photo images on another site, full sized, that I realised they weren’t being presented in their best light. So, staying within the WordPress.com family for the sake of ease, I chose another theme – Sweet Life – with a two column structure. I did love the simple minimalist style of the previous theme, but it’s fun to go with something different once in a while. Best of all, my food images get to have their day in the sun!

‘FOOD FOTO GALLERY’ PHOTO CONTEST WIN – February 2014

I was thrilled to hear that I won the February 2014 food photo contest through Food Foto Gallery for my image of Pistachio and Raspberry Pavlova Roll. My image received over 2500 votes during the voting period. Needless to say, I’m absolutely stoked!

THE JOY OF TRANSFERABLE CREATIVITY – November 2013

I work for a school of art and creativity – The Learning Connexion, situated near Wellington, New Zealand – and have done since 2000. This is an article I wrote that recounts the rather fascinating creative journey I’ve made from painter to hobby cook and food photographer. Hope you enjoy.

FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE – August 2013

Attended a most enjoyable day long food photography workshop just 20 minutes away at Ruth Pretty’s cookery school in Te Horo, New Zealand. Murray Lloyd, food photographer from Wellington provided the tutoring, while Ruth provided all manner of scrumptious foods for us to photograph.

My favourite shots were of the prawn cocktails, which came into their own on a bright red plastic tray. Was exhausted by the end of the day (mainly due to the inordinate amount of eating!) but came away with some very useful tips. For more on this workshop, including the top 10 photos of the day, you can read Murray Lloyd’s blog.
